AATG@100: Forging the Future
Join us to celebrate 100 years of AATG at the 2026 Conference!

Mark your calendars!
The American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) is thrilled to announce its 100th Anniversary Conference, a landmark event celebrating a century of dedication to German language and culture education.
Join us in Boston, Massachusetts, from July 11-14, 2026, at the Westin Copley Place for a conference filled with inspiring sessions, engaging workshops, networking opportunities, and festive celebrations.
This once-in-a-century gathering, held in partnership with our friends from the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF), will bring together German and French educators from across the globe to reflect on our rich histories, explore current trends, and shape the future of language learning. Get ready for an unforgettable experience filled with enriching professional development, exciting cultural events, and the chance to connect with colleagues from around the world.
Any session that is presenting a commercial product or service must be scheduled as an exhibitor session. Exhibitor proposals can be submitted here.
Presenters must be current AATG members in 2026 and must register for the conference to present. Registration will open early 2026.
Proposal Information:
Presentations may be given in German or English.
The standard session length will be one hour. If a longer session is requested, please indicate this in your proposal's session description. A limited number of longer sessions may be available. We will do our best to accommodate proposals wishing for a longer session time slot.
Audience interaction is strongly encouraged, please do not simply read a paper aloud.
Proposals may be related to any area of language, literature, culture, pedagogy, or linguistics of the German-speaking world. Presenters may propose a session in any of the six areas of focus:
- Advocacy/Maintaining Enrollment
- Proficiency and Assessment
- K-16 Articulation
- Multi-Level Classes/Differentiation
- Innovative Technologies in the German Classroom (example: AI or other innovative technologies)
- Open Area Focus (examples: service and community based learning, organizing exchanges)
Types of Sessions:
- Workshops: Workshops are interactive sessions designed to engage participants in hands-on activities, collaborative problem-solving, or skill-building exercises. They typically involve smaller groups and encourage active participation and dialogue.
- Traditional Presentations: Traditional presentations feature one or more speakers delivering new insights to the audience. Presenters are encouraged to accompany their talks with visual aids or other support materials, and plan time for audience engagement.
- Panel Discussions: Panel discussions bring together between 3 and 5 experts to explore a topic from diverse perspectives through moderated conversation. Panel discussions should have a moderator who plans and organizes the discussion, and engages audience members in the discussion.
