Support German! National Project Grants

German programs (as well as all language programs) are in danger due to demographic changes in the US and the decision of school boards/university administrations, and finance departments. Institutions with resources to dedicate to supporting language programs have shown that high

profile projects raise awareness of the importance of language study. Institutions that do not have sufficient resources or support often find themselves seeking support too late. This project seeks to provide high profile support for German programs when sufficient support is not readily available.

Schools, chapters and institutions may apply for support projects that promote German in environments where support is not typically offered.

This project is supported by the German Government's Netzwerk Deutsch Program

In 2024, Grants of up to $1000 will be awarded to projects to support 80% of the total budget for a project.

To meet the grant guidelines, projects must focus on at least one of the following:

  • Promote cooperation between school levels
  • Present a view of modern Germany.
  • Tie the study of German to career choices
  • Support outreach to communities of the school or to educational decision makers (parents, administrators)
  • Reach underrepresented student populations

This project requires documentation of 20% "Own Funds"
  1. AATG will provide up to $1000 for a Project Grant, assuming that each grantee provides a minimum of 20% of their own funding. For the full $1000 amount, participants must be able to demonstrate at least $200 in additional receipted funding support from any source. Grant funding is made on a sliding scale of funding 80% of the total project cost with documented receipts for the remaining 20% upon project completion.

  2. Each chapter or institution may only receive one of these grants annually.

  3. Grants will be accepted and approved until the funding is exhausted. Early application for fall projects is encouraged.

  4. If funded, AATG cannot provide reimbursement for expenses incurred prior to application submission. Significant changes in topic and / or funding amounts require notification to the AATG office. Funding is contingent on keeping roughly to plan and filling out a report to send to our funders, the German Government.

  5. Grants may not utilize two separate sources of German Government funding, i.e. the Goethe-Institut or the DAAD. If your project is receiving funding from another German government source, you need to disclose this in the budget plan.
  6. All projects must be completed, with reports and receipts submitted, by December 15, 2024.
