Tussing-Mahlkau Scholarship

Tussing-Mahlkau Scholarship to Attend an AP German Language and Culture Summer Institute

Are you currently teaching a high school AP German class, or thinking about getting started?

AATG members may apply for financial aid to participate in an AP® German Language and Culture summer institute. Applicants can choose from a wide variety of 2025 summer institutes, some of which are offered in person, some are offered online.

About the Summer Institutes

New and experienced AP teachers as well as German language educators interested in learning about instructional design and assessment for equivalent college courses will come away with concrete strategies for designing and implementing an effective AP German Language and Culture curriculum. Drawing from the AP World Language and Culture curriculum framework, participants will learn how to develop activities and assessments that present language in a cultural context, appropriately build student proficiencies, and integrate authentic materials into language instruction. Additionally, workshop attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the exam structure and strategies to help students prepare for the exam. Participants will also receive advice on how to prepare for the AP Course Audit. Continuing Education Units are available for workshop participants. Further information about AP German Language and Culture can be found at www.apcentral.collegeboard.org.

The Tussing-Mahlkau Scholarship provides financial assistance of up to $700 for registration and other costs upon successful completion of the institute and submission of a report on the impact of the professional development experience on their teaching.
