Announcing the German Teaching Training Pipeline (GTTP) 2026

Community, Institution News,

The American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) invites all German educators to participate in the German Teaching Training Pipeline (GTTP) 2026, a new pilot initiative addressing the nationwide shortage of K–12 German teachers.

As part of this effort, we are launching a national survey for students and teachers of German. Your input will help shape future programming, resources, and support for the next generation of German educators.

As a thank you, survey participants will be entered into a drawing to receive a gift card.

Across the U.S., unfilled positions are forcing schools to reduce or eliminate German programs. The GTTP aims to build a sustainable pipeline by connecting students, aspiring educators, and experienced teachers.

We are seeking K–12 learners and university students interested in teaching, as well as current teachers—especially those nearing retirement—who would like to serve as mentors.

From May through December 2026, the GTTP will offer several opportunities to get involved, including:

  • A six-month mentoring program
  • Scholarship opportunities for teacher training
  • Regional networking events in the fall

The initiative will conclude with the release of a German Teachers Toolkit to support long-term program development nationwide.

Please share this opportunity with interested students and colleagues!

This program is administered by AATG in collaboration with the SPARK Network and partners, and is generously funded by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany.
