Learn more about our 2027 host schools and cities!
Nauen, Brandenburg

Nauen (population 19,854) is located approx. 25 miles northwest of Germany's capital, Berlin. The city is well-known for its historic city center and as the home of the world's oldest preserved radio transmitting installation, the Nauen Transmitter Station (which is also a popular filming location, featured in the The Hunger Games franchise and the Netflix spy thriller Kleo). The Sport- und Kreativitätsgesamtschule Nauen is a first-time course site in 2027, and their team is looking forward to welcoming US students next summer! https://www.ldvc.de/unsere-einrichtungen/gesamtschule/
Borken, North Rhine-Westphalia

Borken (population 42,840) is located in North Rhine-Westphalia, close to the Dutch border, and is a returning host site for 2027! Borken is a lively small town in Germany's Münster-land region, with sights such as the Forum Altes Rathaus Borken (FARB for short - a cultural venue in the centre of Borken and the town's museum), the Gemen castle, and a nature reserve. The Pröbstingsee lake and the Aquarius pool and sauna offer recreational opportunities on a hot summer day. Our host school, the Jodocus Nünning Gesamtschule (JNG) Borken, is no stranger to hosting exchange students: Their existing programs include partnerships with schools in the Netherlands, France, Spain, and South Korea! https://jng.borken.de/jng/
Schermbeck, North Rhine-Westphalia

The municipality of Schermbeck (population 13,393) is situated near the river Lippe in the district of Wesel, in North Rhine-Westphalia. Locally famous for its traditional annual "Volksfest" Kilian, which many people from the surrounding areas attend, Schermbeck is also becoming a popular location for various events like cooking and art exhibitions. The Gesamtschule Schermbeck is a returning Summer Study Program partner in 2027 and looking forward to hosting students again. Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg

The city of Heidelberg (population 160,300), best known for its romantic cityscape, its castle, the university, and the Philosopher’s Walk, is a staple for our Summer Study Program! Both a scientific hub and city of literature, Heidelberg has plenty to offer in terms of education, culture, and tourism. The host school, the Internationale Gesamtschule Heidelberg, has a long history of hosting student exchanges with partner schools from all over the world, and has hosted AATG program participants for the past five years! https://igh-heidelberg.com
Vilsbiburg, Bavaria

The picturesque city of Vilsbiburg (population 12,205) is located in Lower Bavaria, along the river Große Vils. As many Bavarian towns, Vilsbiburg has its own historic market square, though this one is not square-shaped! Additionally, the city surroundings offer plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. The Maximilian-von-Montgelas-Gymnasium (MMG) is a new course site in 2027 and has a long history of international exchanges with schools in France and Hungary. https://www.montgelas-gymnasium.de/
Öhringen, Baden-Württemberg

Öhringen (population 24,374) is the largest town in the Hohenlohe district in the state of Baden-Württemberg (southwest Germany). The quaint medieval place still boasts a number of ancient buildings, such as the Evangelical church (Stiftskirche), a Renaissance town hall, and a palace, the former residence of the princes of Hohenlohe-Öhringen. Fun fact: During the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the Australian national soccer team, "The Socceroos" based their pre-game training in the town. The Socceroos trained at the stadium of local football club TSG Öhringen. Our returning partner school for the 2027 program is the local high school, Hohenlohe Gymnasium. https://hohenlohe-gymnasium-oehringen.de/
