For 2024, DMS projects can be submitted to the combined program "Support German"
Deutsch macht Spaß Grant Funds Available

In 2023, AATG has grant funds from the German government’s Netzwerk Deutsch program to support local campus or community events to promote German learning and engagement with German culture.

Deutsch macht Spass grants offer institutions the chance to offer a fun, engaging event to support, encourage, and demonstrate the fun behind learning German. This project offers up to $500 to support institutional level support to market the program and excite learners for German!

In 2023, 30 grants of up to $500 will be awarded to members to support up to 80% of the total budget for creative and innovative projects.

  • Eligible applicants are AATG members teaching at Saturday schools, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and post-secondary institutions, or teams of teachers from multiple institutions.

  • Grants will be awarded to innovative projects that focus on these areas:
    *  Increase visibility of German / Strengthen German programs
    *  Create a positive view of language learning / DaF
    *  Increase access / diversity of learners of German

  • Preference will be given to schools with demonstrated interest in supporting the project from the school administration and community.

  • Preference will be given to innovative, engaging projects.

  • Preference will be given to geographic distribution of projects (not concentrated in one area)

  • Priority will be given to schools/teachers who have not previously received funding for a project.

  • AATG will provide up to $500 for a Deutsch macht Spass Grant, assuming that each grantee provides a minimum of 20% of their own funding.  For the full $500 amount, participants must be able to demonstrate at least $100 in additional receipted funding support from any source.

  • If funded, AATG cannot provide reimbursement for expenses incurred prior to application submission. Significant changes in topic and / or funding amounts require notification of the AATG office. Funding is contingent on keeping roughly to plan and filling out a report to send to our funders, the German Government.

  • Grants may not utilize two separate sources of German Government funding. If your project is receiving funding from another German government source, you need to disclose this in the budget plan.

  • All projects must be completed, with reports and receipts submitted by December 15, 2023.
