The mission of the AATG is based on the belief that bringing the language, literatures and cultures of the German-speaking world to all Americans is a vital humanistic endeavor which serves essential national interests. It's the only national individual membership organization dedicated to the advancement and improvement of the language, literature, and culture of the German-speaking countries.
With 5,000 members, the AATG is for teachers of German at all levels of instruction and all those interested in the teaching of German.
Discover Languages® is the national campaign developed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) to raise awareness about the cognitive, academic, social, cultural and economic benefits that language learning provides our nation’s students.
AP/College Board is currently recruiting institutions nationwide to participate in pilot tests of potential new exam questions and question types in AP® French Language & Culture & AP® German Language & Culture. The pilots are part of a larger effort to ensure that the College Board’s Advanced Placement Program® continues to reflect current pedagogical and assessment practices.
--Two DAAD Grants (Euro 2.500 each, which is about $3.500 depending on the exchange rate) for U.S. or Canadian professors of German (all levels) or dissertation candidates working in the field of contemporary German literature to do research in the Contemporary German Literature Collection at Washington University’s Olin Library.
The International Association of Teachers of German (IDV), the Goethe-Institutes USA and AATG invite US students (high school) to participate in the International German Olympics (Internationale Deutscholympiade), taking place in July 2012 – with world-wide participation - in Germany.
Each year one Delta Epsilon Phi member is awarded the Käthe Wilson Scholarship. This scholarship covers a three-week study trip and international flight to Germany. Each Chapter Sponsor may recommend ONLY ONE candidate for the scholarship each year.
