Karin Baumgartner


Karin Baumgartner is Associate Professor of German at the University of Utah where she teaches courses on Romanticism, fairy tales, and Swiss literature and culture. She is the recipient of the Best Article Award in Unterrichtspraxis/Teaching German for “‘Ich kam unter die Schweizer.’ Teaching Switzerland as a Multi-Ethnic Society" (2013).

Switzerland: Culture, Literature, and Music
This presentation gives a general overview of Switzerland including culture, politics, and history. The presentation will show participants how to incorporate Switzerland into the task-based classroom. Beyond Stereotypes: Teaching Johanna Spyri in the German Classroom
This presentation focuses on the children's classic "Heidi" and shows teachers how to use the novel to teach Switzerland.
