How German is the American Dictionary? The German Contribution to the English-American Language
Starting with the Mnemonic Device: "Twigs of Salty Plants Make Deer Thirsty for Thirty Days," also called Grimms Law, this workshop focuses on the relationship between the German and the English Language. From there we proceed to look at the contemporary contribution of German to the American Dictionary. There is more to this story than Zeitgeist and Weltanschauung! Keywords: History and Culture

Das Firmenprofil: An Approach to Teaching Wirtschaftsdeutsch
One of the more interesting ways to approach the teaching of Wirtschaftsdeutsch is by composing a profile of a German international company. This workshop concentrates on learning the special business vocabulary in the context of composing profiles of German companies. Where is the Standort of this business? What is its legal description, KG, GmbH, AG? What is its Produktpalette? etc. Keywords: German for Professional Purposes

The Twelve Best Poems by Marie Luise Kaschnitz
Marie Luise Kaschnitz (1902-1974) is a very accessible German poet and short story writer. She wrote approximately one thousand poems. Of those thousand poems, let us examine and select twelve of the best and most suitable for the classroom on the intermediate level. This workshop will start by looking at an "easy" poem by Bertolt Brecht, "Vergnügungen." It is a very good example of how German poetry can be approached without interpretation. This workshop will once more attempt to close the gap between the study of language and literature. Keywords: Literatur im Unterricht
