TEACH GERMAN Day K-6 Activities

Get ready for the National TEACH GERMAN Day celebration on October 4! There are several ways for you to get involved on National TEACH GERMAN Day.

Ideas for Elementary School Students

  • Students can take on our #Teach10to10 challenge. They can show off their skills and spread the love of the German language by teaching 10 people 10 German words.
  • Students can have their own “Flat Stanley” type project with Hannah, the National German Week mascot. Hannah is ready to participate in National German Week events with you. Download the outline version of Hannah, print, and have students color Hannah.
  • Students explore and imagine what a career as a German teacher would be like with the Dream Job: German Teacher Coloring Sheet.
  • Students find their way through the German Teacher Maze by following the route with the German teacher's tools.
  • The Teach German Day Crossword is a great follow-up activity to a lesson on German animal names as it gives students the chance to use their new vocabulary and try out a German Kreuzworträtsel.
  • The To be a German Teacher Activity gets students thinking deeper about what teachers of German do, including what tools they use, what a typical day is like for a German teacher, and what education they need to become a teacher.
  • Students can discover how much German they already know with the Teach German Day Word Search with hidden English-German cognates.
  • Show your students what led you to a career as a teacher of German and what you love about your job with the Interview your German Teacher Activity.
  • Have students create a video to enter the TEACH GERMAN Day Video Contest.
