AATG Summer Seminars

Mit Deutsch in die Zukunft
June 14–July 4, 2020 in Leipzig

This three-week seminar in Leipzig designed for undergraduate students (6+ semesters) and graduate students planning a career teaching German, and new teachers with 3 years experience or less includes:

  • Methodology Workshops
  • Workshop: Werbung für das Fach Deutsch
  • Roundtable discussion: Traumberuf Deutschlehrer/-in
  • Exploring Visual Literacy
  • Individualized language development
  • School Visits and Classroom Observations
  • Leipzig exploration und Themenrecherchen
  • Culture Program
The seminar will be conducted in German. This program is made available by the Transatlantik-Programm der Bundesrepublik Deutschland through funds of the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie. Program costs, materials, and accommodations including breakfast, as well as a small travel stipend are provided. Participation is limited to 20 AATG members.

Einfach unvergesslich! Erinnerungsorte und kulturreflexives Lernen im DaF-Unterricht
July 10–21, 2020 in Vienna and Klagenfurt

In this 12-day seminar, K-16 teachers will explore these topics:

  • Erinnerungsorte im DaF-Unterricht
  • Unterrichtstechniken der kulturreflexiven Landeskunde
  • Geschichtsvermittlung im Landeskundeunterricht
  • Arbeit mit Bildern, Film und Literatur im Bereich des kulturreflexiven Lernens
  • Sprache(n), Identität(en) und Kultur(en) in Österreich aus dem Blickwinkel des kollektiven Gedächtnisses
A detailed description of the seminar is available here. The seminar, conducted in German, begins in Vienna and ends in Klagenfurt. This seminar is supported by the Austrian Bundesministerium für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung. A special price of $1,475 for AATG members includes program costs, materials, meals, lodging, and transportation within Austria. Transportation to and from Austria is not included. Participation is limited to 10 AATG members.

Internationaler Lehrerfortbildungskurs - Heidelberg University
August 3-28, 2020 in Heidelberg

Heidelberg University in cooperation with the Germanistic Society of America is pleased to offer stipends to three AATG members to enroll in the Fortbildungskurs II of the Internationaler Ferienkurs at Universität Heidelberg. The 4-week course is designed to further develop the language abilities and teaching skills of DaF-teachers who are non-native German speakers. Participants, who should have C1-level German proficiency on the CEFR scale, have the opportunity to work with various instructors and can choose their own set of modules from a wide variety of topics. The stipend covers program costs, lodging, and international flights. Participation is limited to three AATG members.
