GOLDEN Online Graduate-Level Courses

The GOLDEN (Global Online Distance Education Network) MA program, housed at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, offers graduate level courses specifically designed for German language teachers. All courses are offered online and may be taken either as stand-alone courses or as part of a formal MA program. GOLDEN courses actively engage participants in co-constructing knowledge and building skills through online collaboration and emphasize the creation of activities and products that can be directly implemented into the language classroom. The GOLDEN MA program has consistently been ranked in the top 10 Online Graduate Programs in the country by U.S. News & World Report. Learn more about the GOLDEN program in this video interview with a recent graduate, which provides a glimpse into the GOLDEN experience and how the program impacted the teacher and his learners.

Two courses will be offered in the 2018 Fall Semester: Writing in the German Classroom, and Assessment in the German Classroom. For information on how to enroll in the MA program and/or how to register for individual GOLDEN courses, please contact Sheri Hurlbut. See Course Descriptions▼

Assessment in the German Classroom. (TEAC 922P) In this online course specifically designed for German teachers, participants will explore the fundamental concepts and principles of language assessment and discover a variety of assessment strategies that work to improve foreign language teaching and learning. Participants will create classroom-based assessments, including alternative assessments, to use with their own students based on research-informed pedagogical practices. In the role of the learner they will complete and create assessments that often incorporate Web 2.0 technologies and will reflect on their learning experiences as a teacher.
