"German Studies in the 21st Century: History, Text, Image"
The Graduate School Experience for Advanced Undergraduates in German Studies

November 17-19, 2016

Department of German, Scandinavian and Dutch
University of Minnesota-Twin Cities

Nominate your best students to participate! The Graduate School Experience program was begun with a view to the future of German Studies across the U.S.

This workshop introduces talented undergraduate students to graduate education (M.A., Ph.D.) in German Studies. Participants will explore multiple perspectives on the field through interdisciplinary sessions on literature, film, and other texts, led by University of Minnesota faculty. The seven workshop sessions represent the wide range of German Studies today, from the premodern to film studies, German-Jewish studies, contemporary literature and culture, and the environmental humanities. Current graduate students will describe their experiences, and a panel of recent alumni will present academic and non-academic career options after the M.A. and Ph.D.

Applications are invited from students with a passion for German language, literature, and culture, strong academic records, and aptitude for research and creative thinking. German majors and students majoring in other disciplines with a sustained interest in German are welcome. Airfare within the U.S. and lodging are provided for participants.

Nominate your best undergraduate students to participate! Admission to the workshop is by faculty nomination. Find more information and how to nominate a student here. The priority deadline for applications is October 19, 2016 (closing date 10/25/16).

The project is funded by the DAAD/ German Academic Exchange Service.
