Linda Horvath of Charlotte Catholic High School in Charlotte, North Carolina received the Intercultural Student Experiences (ISE) Language Matters Award at the AATG’s recent meeting in Orlando. This award recognizes a high school teacher of German for providing immersion experiences and motivating students to speak German outside the classroom.

Linda Horvath is known for her creative and innovative ways of keeping students engaged and speaking in the target language. Her students demonstrate this with their successes at their annual German Day competition and their high achievement on the National German Exam. Her students’ performance on the Deutsches Sprachdiplom resulted in Providence Senior High School in Charlotte, being designated as a PASCH Schule.

Linda’s efforts resulted in the growth of German at Providence from a small program to one now serving over 200 students. She led two student exchanges, one with Krefeld, Charlotte’s partner city, and the other with the Parsberg Gymnasium near Regensburg. Along with her chemistry colleague, she also conducted a virtual exchange with the Gymnasium Carolinum in Neustrelitz. A long-standing member of AATG, Linda has served as her chapter’s treasurer, co-host of her chapter’s annual meeting as well as the organizer of the North Carolina’s annual Student Immersion Weekend.
