Tussing-Mahlkau Scholarships to Attend AP German Language and Culture Workshop at AATG/ACTFL Convention
Are you currently teaching a high school AP German class, or thinking about getting started? AATG members may apply for funds to attend the AP German workshop during the AATG Convention held in conjunction with the ACTFL Annual Convention and World Languages Expo in Boston, Massachusetts. The AP German Language and Culture workshop is a pre-conference workshop Thursday, November 17, 2016 from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.
The Tussing-Mahlkau Scholarship, funded through a generous gift from an AATG member, provides financial assistance up to $700 to cover fees for the AP German workshop, as well as registration for the full ACTFL convention November 18-20, 2016. To attend the workshop, participants must register for the AATG/ACTFL Convention. Find more information here.
Stipend recipients must pay convention and workshop registration fees and will be reimbursed up to $700 upon successful completion of the workshop and submission of a report on the impact of the professional development experience on their teaching. To qualify, you must be a member of AATG and currently teach German in a secondary school.

About the Workshop
New and experienced AP teachers as well as German language educators interested in learning about instructional design and assessment for equivalent college courses will come away with concrete strategies for designing and implementing an effective AP German Language and Culture curriculum. Drawing from the AP World Language and Culture curriculum framework, participants will learn how to develop activities and assessments that present language in cultural context, appropriately build student proficiencies and integrate authentic materials into language instruction. Additionally, workshop attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the exam structure and strategies to help students prepare for the exam. Participants will also receive advice on how to prepare for the AP Course Audit. Continuing Education Units are available for workshop participants.
