Susanne Rinner, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, received the Friend of German Award at the AATG’s recent meeting in Orlando. This award recognizes exemplary leadership in the advocacy of German and German language education.
Susanne Rinner is recognized for her outstanding support for and promotion of German and the study of German in North Carolina. Along with teaching German at several institutions of higher education, she has also shared her knowledge at foreign language conferences. On campus she has been instrumental in promoting German and student world language housing. Susanne Rinner is extremely active in the North Carolina AATG chapter. She is an open and embracing colleague who focuses on collaboration across all levels.
She serves as Testing Chair in North Carolina, and the German programs throughout the state benefit from her support and hard work. Another important aspect of Susanne Rinner's work is the teaching of teachers. Not only does she
teach future German educators the language skills they need, but she takes a genuine interest in their goals and development. As a former student states, Susanne’s guidance "has greatly influenced my success” thus reaching a whole new generation of German students.
