First developed by Blake Peters, principal of the German Auslandsschule in Portland, Oregon, and further revised and updated by AATG office personnel, this listing should give you an overview of these special schools in the United States. New schools are being established every year, in some cases replacing German programs lost in some public schools. 

Please review this list to see if the school(s) you are familiar with are listed.  If there is incorrect information given for a school, email us with the correct information (headquarters@aatg.org).  We want to keep this list as current as possible, so it becomes a useful tool for anyone seeking a place to learn German outside of the usual public and private school model.

Explanation of School Types:

• Auslandsschulen: Schools that are administered with German standards of education and curriculum - PASCH (Schools: Partners for the Future) sponsored by the German government
• Immersionschulen: Where students experience full or partial immersion in German langauge
• Teilzeitschulen: Saturday Schools, also known as Sprachschulen, that meet only once a week for instruction
• DSD-Schulen: Schools in the American school system that offer the German language diploma - sponsored by the ZfA (Zentralstelle fuer das Auslandsschulwesen)
• FIT Schulen: Schools in the American school system that are sponsored by the Goethe-Institut and offer the FIT exam
• Other K-8 Public Schools: Other known American public schools that offer German at the K-8 level
