August 3-9, 2008 - Deutsche Woche in Bar Harbor, ME
The twenty-fifth session of the Deutsche Woche in Bar Harbor will take place August 5-11,2007 on the campus of the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine. This total immersion program for middle, secondary, and college teachers of German offers lectures and hands-on workshops designed to help you refresh your German skills and to acquire new ideas for teaching.

This year's topic is “Developing Multiple Literacies at All Levels of German through Viewing, Reading, and Writing.“  This summer's seminar leaders are Gisela Hoecherl-Alden, German professor at the University of Maine, and Petra Schürmann, publisher of the bilingual cultural magazine German World.  By integrating technology, authentic materials, speaking and reading with writing instruction for all levels, seminar participants will develop strategies to help their students become effective writers in German.  Participants will create writing tasks aimed at turning students into active rather than passive media consumers.  In conjunction with the Deutsch Tour program of the Goethe Institute Boston, participants will learn how they might have their students’ work published in a special supplement to German World.

The Deutsche Woche in Bar Harbor provides a wonderful opportunity to be immersed in German language and culture while enjoying the natural beauty of one of New England's most picturesque seaside locations. The cost of the program is $595, which includes room (primarily double occupancy, with a few singles available), board, and materials.

Accommodations and classrooms are in a former summer cottage right on the water's edge and adjacent to Acadia National Park. The Deutsche Woche in Bar Harbor is sponsored by the AATG and the Goethe-Institut Boston.  4.5 continuing education units are available from the University of Maine for $10.

The seminar begins at dinner on Sunday, August 3rd and ends at breakfast on Saturday, August 9th.

Participants are expected to stay for the full week and to speak German during the duration of the program.
