PLT is the most selective national honor society of educators and a contributing body to education quality assurance. PLT supports accomplished teaching, standards-based professional learning, and the recognition of educators for excellent performance. (Founded, 1910)
PROFESSIONAL AWARDS
The Excellence in Education Award is presented in recognition of commitment to excellence in education and unique contributions to the field. The award consists of an engraved plaque and one thousand dollars ($1,000). If the recipient is not a member of Pi Lambda Theta, a complimentary lifetime honorary membership is extended. The recipient is announced at Biennial Council and serves as the keynote speaker. Expenses are paid to attend and receive the award. The award was established in 1979. Deadline: January 10 (given even years) The Janyce Yoshizawa Excellence in Classroom Teaching Award is presented in recognition of outstanding classroom teaching in grades K-6. The award consists of a cash payment of one thousand dollars ($1,000) and a framed certificate. The award was established in 1998. It is sustained by a restricted fund established in the Pi Lambda Theta Educational Endowment pursuant to a contribution by Sumi Y. Makey to honor the memory of her sister, Janyce Yoshizawa, a classroom teacher. Deadline: February 10 (annually) The Thelma Jean Brown Classroom Teacher Award is presented in recognition of outstanding classroom teaching. The award is intended to honor a teacher for accomplishments while teaching at a school that is not exceptionally well supported financially. The award consists of a cash payment of five hundred dollars ($500) and a framed certificate. If the recipient is qualified to be a member of Pi Lambda Theta but is not a member, a complimentary one-year membership is extended. The award, established in 1997, is funded by Thelma Brown, a career classroom teacher and a life member of Pi Lambda Theta. Thelma Brown has served the association in many capacities at all levels, including two terms as international vice president from 1989 to 1993. Deadline: February 10 (given odd years) |
