Upward Trend for German Language Enrollment in the US

The Modern Language Association (MLA) has just released a report entitled "Enrollments in Languages Other Than English in United States Institutions of Higher Education, Fall 2006".

According to the report, German remained the third most taught language at US colleges and universities, with a 3.5% increase from 2002. This was a larger percentage increase than what German saw in 2002, and it continues an upward trend, in contrast to the decline the language saw in the 1990's. Overall enrollments in languages other than English rose by 12.9% in 2006; modern language enrollments have risen steadily since 1998.
