Outstanding German Educator Award
Awarded by the AATG for excellence in teaching, as evidenced by the individual's ability to stimulate and challenge students intellectually; and the teacher's professional growth and contributions, as evidenced by continued study, by the ability to influence the quality of education in classrooms other than one's own, and by contributions to the academic environment outside the classroom. Three awards are given yearly at the Annual Meeting: one to an elementary, middle school or junior high school instructor; one to a high school instructor; one to a post-secondary instructor. Awarded by the AATG for excellence in teaching, as evidenced by the individual's ability to stimulate and challenge students intellectually; and the teacher's professional growth and contributions, as evidenced by continued study, by the ability to influence the quality of education in classrooms other than one's own, and by contributions to the academic environment outside the classroom. Three awards are given yearly at the Annual Meeting: one to an elementary, middle school or junior high school instructor; one to a high school instructor; one to a post-secondary instructor. Since 1999, the Checkpoint Charlie Foundation has supported the Outstanding German Educator Award with stipends for study-travel awards in Berlin.

Intercultural Student Experiences (ISE) Year of Languages Teacher Award
This award, sponsored by Intercultural Student Experiences (ISE Web site: http://www.isemn.net/), recognizes a high school world language teacher who has demonstrated excellence in the foreign language classroom, a commitment to the pursuit of global awareness and cultural understanding, whose students participate in a travel or exchange program.
