Helping students turn their passion for language into a profession for life Offered are: The Graduate School of Language and Educational Linguistics (GSLEL) is the crossroads of the Monterey Institute of International Studies. It is the place that best epitomizes the Institute’s commitment to international understanding through language learning. Both in and out of our classes, you will meet the widest possible variety of individuals from every national, cultural and linguistic background, broadening your global perspective and your ability to see beyond the limits of your own culture. GSLEL has two main missions. We prepare outstanding teachers of English as a second language and teachers of foreign languages. We also provide exciting, stimulating language classes to students from the Institute’s other disciplines and programs, including business, policy studies, trade and education. Our ESL and foreign language classes include both skills classes (writing, conversation, public speaking) and "content" classes that will teach you the vocabulary and concepts needed to understand critical world issues as they are actually discussed in the press, the councils of government and the world of trade, business and education.
