Outstanding High School Senior Award

Inspired by the success of the AATF Award, AATG has established an Outstanding High School Senior in German Award. Any public or private secondary school may participate.

To qualify for the award, a student must:

  • have a strong overall academic record;
  • be in his or her senior year at a public or private secondary school;
  • have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the study of German by participation in extracurricular activities related to German which may include but are not limited to the National German Exam, study abroad, National German Week activities, National German Honor Society, or German Club;
  • at the time of graduation, have completed at least three years of formal German study;
  • be a non-native speaker of German;
  • be nominated by an AATG member teacher.

To apply for the award, the teacher of German must:

  • choose only one student per school (especially in case of more than one teacher of German); and
  • be an AATG member.

Students will receive a special certificate acknowledging their award and a press release to distribute to local media; a congratulatory letter will be sent to the principal, and the student's name will be placed on the AATG Outstanding Senior Honor Roll on the AATG Web site (with parents' permission). The registration fee for the award is $25. For an additional $10 fee, students can also receive an Outstanding High School Senior in German medal.
