Now accepting applications for 2009-2010 program! Full scholarship to study abroad in Germany for High School Students! The Congress – Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (CBYX), known in Germany as the Parlamentarisches Patenschafts-Programm (PPP), was inaugurated in 1983 when the U.S. Congress and the German Bundestag passed legislation authorization. At the outset, the program was part of the President's International Youth Exchange Initiative and celebrated the 300th anniversary of German settlements in the U.S. Since then, both national legislatures have renewed funding each year, enabling almost 17,000 American and German young people to participate since 1984. The program is administered in the U.S. by the U.S. Department of State. The program is designed to strengthen ties between the younger generations of both countries. In addition to improving their career skills through formal study and work experience, participants expand their perspectives and awareness of each other's culture, society, history and politics. CBYX provides German and American young people a full scholarship for an academic year experience in the host country. CBYX is implemented through grants to several private not-for-profit exchange organizations. They are responsible for the recruitment/selection, orientation, and international travel of American students and the placement and support of German students in American host families and schools throughout the United States. For more information, please visit: http://exchanges.state.gov/education/citizens/students/programs/cbyx.htm The following organizations are responsible for recruitment and selection of American high school students in the following regions: Central: YFU at 1-800-833-6343;Northeast: AFS-USA at 1-800-AFS-INFO; Pacific/Northwest: ASSE International at 1-800-333-3802, ext. 280; Southeast: Council on International Educational Exchange at 1-800-448-9944; Southwest: AYUSA International at 1-800-727-4540.
