September AATG sends testing mailing including order form to all secondary level teachers of German on its database (approx. 10,000 nationwide) October 1 Chapter president appoints or reappoints Chapter Testing Chair and submits name to AATG office Oct.- Nov. Chapter Presidents and Chapter Testing Chairs encourage teachers to participate in testing program (announce at chapter meetings, in chapter newsletter, and on the chapter website). Request lists or labels of secondary teachers from AATG office via email to distribute announcements. Nov.-Jan. Chapter Testing Chairs form chapter awards committee (should have at least two other members) to establish criteria for the selection of chapter nominees. Oct. 31 Postmark deadline for mailing orders and fees to AATG Nov.-ongoing Software Design ships tests to Test Administrator (not to the German teacher) approximately 3 weeks after order is received at AATG Dec. 10-Jan. 21 Test administration period Jan. 21 Postmark deadline to return all answer sheets to: Software Design For delivery service other than the post office, use: Software Design Phone: 703-455-6779 Feb. 2 Software Design sends test scores to Chapter Testing Chairs (electronically) and to German teachers, along with an application form for students scoring at or above the 90th percentile. Feb. 20 Deadline for student applications for Study Trip Awards to be received by Chapter Testing Chairs. (The Chapter Testing Chair’s address is listed toward the end of the test results sent to teachers.) Feb. 20-Mar. 11 Chapter Testing Chairs and chapter awards committees interview applicants in person or by phone and select nominees. March 11 AATG sends shipment of all prizes (books, T-shirts, medals, etc.) to Chapter Testing Chairs. German teachers order Certificates of Merit directly from AATG (on form sent along with test results by Software Design) for their students who score at or above 70%. March 11 Chapter Testing Chairs send materials on nominee to AATG along with a letter explaining chapter selection process and why the chapter’s nominee was chosen. These materials must be received at AATG by this date. March 12 Chapter Testing Chairs notify all teachers and student applicants of each student’s status. March 16 National Selection Committee meets to choose prizewinner finalists. March 17 AATG notifies applicants of study trip awards and sends additional forms to winners. April 6 Additional forms from winners must be received at AATG. AATG sends these to PAD (Pädagogischer Austauschdienst) in Bonn. June/July Study Trips (dates tentative) |
