National German Honor Society for High School Students of German

Delta Epsilon Phi (DEP) was founded at Coral Gables High School (FL) in 1968 by Käthe Wilson, a devoted AATG member, who until her death remained active and supportive of this rapidly expanding organization.

To establish your own Honor Society, the following criteria must be met:

  • Only accredited public and private senior high schools are eligible to have chapters.
  • Sponsors of chapters must be teachers of German and members of AATG.
  • Sponsors from accredited high schools shall apply to AATG for a Chapter Charter by submitting a request on official school stationery (there is no application form) and shall pay a one-time fee of $10 (check payable to AATG must accompany application).

    Mail to: AATG
    112 Haddontowne Court, #104
    Cherry Hill, NJ 08034-3668

*Letter may be faxed to AATG at 856-795-9398
  • To be eligible, a student must have completed three semesters of German.
  • The student must have attained an average of 3.6 in German and a 3.0 general average in these three semesters, on a 4.0 scale. Individual schools may set additional requirements.
  • Membership certificates are $2.50 each for 8 1/2" x 11" format (blank), or $4.00 each for 8 1/2" x 11" format (printed). This fee is paid by each student only once. Check payable to AATG must accompany all orders.

Upon affiliation you receive a Chapter Handbook which contains the Constitution, suggested induction ceremony, chapter activities, and a list of available award items such as membership cards, diploma seals, pins, sew-on patches, graduation cap tassels and honor cords.

For students who have previously been members of Junior Delta Epsilon Phi, they need to be re-inducted in the senior high school honor society. However special notice could be made when introducing them at the ceremony or they may be recognized in the program booklet with special designation.
