Baden-Württemberg Seminar for American Faculty in German/German Studies 2012

The Fulbright Commission and the University of Tübingen have agreed to cooperate in an effort to offer younger American faculty in German and German Studies an exciting professional development opportunity in Tübingen in 2012.

The seminar language will be German, and the seminar will give an overview over current developments in German secondary and post-secondary education as a result of demographic developments and ethnic diversity. A full day will focus on European issues. In particular, participants will have the chance to become acquainted with German as a Foreign Language departments and German departments of Baden-Württemberg universities. Several workshops will offer topics concerning the teaching of German as a Foreign Language. The seminar will also include class visits and feature

• Intercultural studies, ‘Interkulturelle Landeskunde’ as an example of teaching German culture and civilization, and applied cultural studies including project-oriented approaches of learning
• Educational objectives and goals, syllabus and content, methods of teaching
• Placement and evaluation
• Presentation and analysis of a German textbook
